Professor of literature, writer, and translator, David LeHardy Sweet is the author of three books: "Avant-garde Orientalism: The Eastern 'Other' in Twentieth-Century Travel Narrative and Poetry" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017); "Savage Sight/ Constructed Noise: Poetic Adaptations of Painterly Techniques in the French and American Avant-Gardes" (University of North Carolina Press, 2003); and "Jean Cocteau and 'The Testament of Orpheus'" (Viking Studio, 2001), the latter with photographer Lucien Clergue. He has a PhD in Comparative Literature from Columbia University in New York and currently works as an adjunct professor at The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Manhattan.
